California Interscholastic Federation: pupil health: heat illness: guidelines

The review must give special consideration to hotter regions, while retaining safeguards for when schools must limit or stop outdoor sports and provide emergency cooling.

What the law does ​

• Requires the California Interscholastic Federation to review and update its exertional heat-illness guidelines, procedures, and safety standards by July 1, 2027, and every year after.
• Requires special consideration of regions with higher average temperatures during those reviews.
• Maintains requirements that the guidelines set conditions for limiting or prohibiting practices and games, use Wet Bulb Globe Temperature measurements, and require accessible whole-body cooling when conditions warrant it.
