Jury service exemptions

The law removes the requirement for a treating health care provider’s supporting note for these seniors, while retaining the general rule that jury-service excuses require undue hardship.

What the law does ​

• Requires courts to permanently excuse an eligible person age 80 or older who gives the jury commissioner a written attestation that an impairment permanently prevents jury service.
• Bars courts from requiring additional medical documentation for that permanent excuse.
• Allows the Judicial Council to update court rules and forms to implement the change.

Context ​

The new process becomes operative January 1, 2028.
