Restoring Truth And Sanity To American History

The order reshapes how the Smithsonian and Interior Department sites present American history and ties future Smithsonian funding to those standards.

What the order does ​

• Directs the Vice President to use his Smithsonian Board of Regents role to seek removal of what the order calls improper ideology from Smithsonian museums, research and education centers, and the National Zoo.
• Directs the Vice President and Office of Management and Budget to seek funding restrictions on Smithsonian exhibits or programs deemed divisive, degrading of shared American values, or inconsistent with federal policy.
• Directs that the planned American Women’s History Museum celebrate women’s achievements and not recognize men as women.
• Seeks Smithsonian regents committed to the order’s policy.
• Directs the Interior Department to fund available infrastructure improvements at Independence National Historical Park for completion by July 4, 2026.
• Orders a review of Interior-controlled monuments and markers changed or removed since January 1, 2020, and restoration where appropriate and lawful.
• Directs Interior-controlled historical displays to avoid content deemed improperly disparaging and instead emphasize American achievements, progress, and natural grandeur.
