Restoring Gold Standard Science

The order reshapes how federal agencies produce, disclose, evaluate, and communicate scientific information used in policy decisions. It also rolls back scientific-integrity changes made from January 20, 2021, through January 20, 2025.

What the order does ​

• Directs the Office of Science and Technology Policy to issue implementation guidance within 30 days.
• Requires agencies to update scientific-integrity policies and report implementation actions within 60 days after guidance is published.
• Requires disclosure, where practicable and lawful, of influential scientific data, analyses, models, and source code while protecting national security and sensitive information.
• Requires agencies to document uncertainty, disclose material assumptions, avoid unjustified worst-case scenarios, and weigh evidence by quality and relevance.
• Restores scientific-integrity policies in effect on January 19, 2021, pending agency updates and requires review of actions adopted during the following four years.
• Establishes internal agency processes, overseen by senior appointees, to investigate violations, correct information, and refer misconduct for possible discipline.
• Extends the rules where practicable to federal contractors involved in producing or using scientific information.
