Additional Measures To Address The Crime Emergency In The District Of Columbia

The order expands the federal response to Washington’s declared crime emergency and creates forces that could also deploy elsewhere. It also increases federal scrutiny of public housing and transit safety.

• Creates a specialized District of Columbia National Guard unit and a nationwide National Guard quick reaction force for civil disturbances and public safety missions.
• Orders reviews of crime-prevention compliance in federally supported D.C. housing and worker safety on federally funded transit.
• Directs the Attorney General to review Metropolitan Police Department orders and seek changes from the D.C. mayor.
